The Hermit A Dramatic Romance eBook Shayne McClendon
This book is terrifying, unexpected, and yet in parts tender and romantic. Please don't mistake the three star review as being outright dislike of this book. There were many things to love about it. The characters are really detailed and the events, particularly in the beginning of the book are interesting. This book has a good plot and isn't the simple read you often find when there is a romantic element involved. For the most part, I thought this was really well done. What got me, and lowered my love of this book slightly, was the explicitness of the sex scenes. I didn't feel that these scenes matched the rest of the story. The element of tenderness between the two main characters was what made me like this book in the first place, so the explicit scenes just took me out of that tenderness zone and made me shake my head. It just didn't fit in my opinion.
I also found that in the beginning of the book when the main female character is told by her husband not to speak, that it made me not care all that much when something happened to him.
Otherwise, this book is at times raw, will make you pay attention and root for the characters by the end. It was not a bad read and I would still recommend it.

The Hermit A Dramatic Romance eBook Shayne McClendon Reviews
The horror these two people endured in their separate lives is unfathomable. He has lived a secluded life in the mountains of Alaska for the last four years trying to escape the past that almost destroyed him.
She was kept in a cage made of rebar that was built into a cave in those same mountains where she was brutalized by three very evil men for two years before she makes her daring escape.
Our hermit hero stumbles across her almost dead body while hiking and he does the only thing he can do - he takes her to his cabin and very gently doctors her until she is strong enough to be taken back to civilization to be healed properly so he can then go back to his secluded life as a hermit. After he is sure she is in good hands he does just that, goes back to his mountain cabin to live out his life in seclusion. Only problem is, he became attached to her while she was there with him and he realizes he is lonely. But he figures it's for the best.
Meanwhile she had grown very attached to her rescuer doctor hermit and after her ordeal she can't stand to be around people anymore. Nobody except for him. The rest of the book is so moving and emotional and sensuous. You've got to get this book. Seriously!
I just finished The Hermit and it was a good read. It’s all about second chances and Ryan and Daphne get it in more ways than one. Ryan is recluse living in a cabin and has everything that he needs to survive. There is a reason he is out there so he wants his solitude. However he doesn't expect to find Daphne half dead by his home. After caring for her, you find out that she had been kidnapped along with her husband (who is now dead) for over 2 years. She is undeniably scared, broken, hurt and confused. She has such mistrust now and who can blame her? Will Daphne be able to get over her mistrust and let Ryan care for her so she can survive? You will have to read and see how their journey goes.
I enjoyed the story. It was a quick, faced paced story with heart ache that will just break your heart. For Daphne to go through things that she did, sickening and tragic. I just felt so bad for her. Ryan is a gentle man and there is a reason why he can care for her the way he can. They both are broken in different ways and just needed each other to heal.
My one problem with the story is that I felt that I could only sense the author's voice in my head when I was reading it, not the characters if that makes sense? I still wanted to see what happened to Ryan and Daphne so I stuck with it and still enjoyed it but I just didn't get their voices.

There are some rough story elements in this book - some very bad things happened to the lead characters and it's hard to read about them. But despite that, what has stayed with me in the months since I read this book is kindness. Kindness from a person who thought he'd lost it. Kindness for a person that desperately needed it. The power of kindness to triumph over so much pain and suffering. I realize this is fiction, but I found myself being awed and grateful that such kindness exists in this often cold, cruel world. I guess that kindness must come from the woman behind the characters, Shayne McClendon. So thanks, Shayne, for showing that people (at least you and the characters you create) can retain their ability to be so, so kind, despite all the ways the world tries to strip that from us. And for showing that the essence of who we are can trump our life's circumstances. I have a feeling that's something you know a bit about, and while I'm sorry you had to endure, I'm so very very impressed and grateful that you did.
