Fun, cleverly written, this book is full of great tips! A perfect mix of the authors own hilarious experiences and research-based information. This book helped me to reexamine my own relationship with food and provided great advice on how to adopt new, healthier strategies for me and my "big fat boyfriend."
This book stands out from the others by how it's written. It's fun AND informative, which is a welcome change from having only one or the other. I really enjoyed the recipes and plan to use them now that my BF and I are both trying to drop a few pounds that we gained from constantly eating out at fast food restaurants. Thank you Jenna for this helpful and humorous book!
It took me about 3 days to get through this book! It was super creative and pretty witty. There were a lot of tips in her book that have been heard/used before but there were some new things that have definitely helped! One tip that I've used already is going out to a restaurant with your BFB dressed up. I never thought that looking good at a restaurant would help you stop shoving french fries in your face. It really is helpful.
Besides being full of excellet tips, this book is full of comedy from the author's personal experiences as well as the experiences of the women she has interviewed. Ms. Bergen makes the book so real that any woman can relate to her stories! I also like that the chapters are short (works well for a busy mom!) and the pages are bright and colorful - nothing loses my attention faster than boring black and white pages! I always get discouraged reading diet books becuase I am bored by all the facts and almost "stereo direction format" they are written in - not so here! I've never read a diet book that was a page-turner...until now! A must read!
Jenna Bergen does a great job of keeping readers entertained while giving helpful advice. The book reads like a story to keep the pages turning while giving female readers help with tricky dating/food situations she will likely encounter. Ladies--we have definitely all been there! You can compete with your boyfriend in many things--but an eating contest is not one of them (or shouldnt be!). Not your typical diet book, this is a great read!
I have read a LOT of diet books that I can barely get through because they are so boring, just a lot of the same info repeated over and over. But this book is actually a good, funny read, and not inflated with a lot of other junk. I related to the author' situation--my boyfriend (now husband) and his entire family had really poor eating habits and I gained weight throughout our relationship as I picked up their bad habits. It is nice knowing that I am not alone, and the advice in this book is practical, stuff I can really use. It has already inspired me to lose two pounds and cook better meals for my stepdaughter. This is the kind of diet book we need more of--one that focuses on health, and actually works. Love it!
I was drawn to this book because of the humorous title and because a lot of ladies find themselves in this situation. Your Big Fat Boyfriend is a lighthearted yet very helpful guide to helping ladies stay fit when their boyfriend isn't. The truth is that many couples do gain weight after getting together. The reasons vary from adjusting to each others eating habits to using dining out as a way of spending time together.
The book includes tips on estimating your metabolism, how to eat healthy when dining out and ordering in, how to grocery shop, what exercises are most efficient (and offer couples together time), and it even includes a few easy recipes. There is no complicated program to follow, just easy lifestyle changes that will make you more aware of what you put in your mouth. A fun fast read for the ladies.
